Germany will stage next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf.

Broadcaster NDR said it was chosen over Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover. Dusseldorf is the home town of Lena Meyer-Landrut, whose triumph won Germany the right to host the annual celebration of europop for the first time since 1983.

NDR says Dusseldorf won mainly because its arena could hold more spectators than the venues proposed by its competitors. More than 24,000 people will be able to attend.

The 2011 final is scheduled for May 14.
