One million journeys have been made on hire bikes in London since the flagship scheme was launched 10 weeks ago, it was announced yesterday.

More than 90,000 people have signed up as members of the scheme, sponsored by Barclays, making around 20,000 journeys on the blue-coloured bicycles every weekday. London Mayor Boris Johnson, said: “A million thank yous go to Londoners for the warmth with which they have embraced our beautiful blue bikes.

“The zest in which people have taken to two wheels and joined the cycling revolution we are engendering in the capital has gladdened my heart.”
