Young shooters Clive Farrugia and Darren Vella obtained Malta’s best result at the Commonwealth Games so far after finishing fourth in the skeet pairs competition earlier today.

The Maltese pair turned in an excellent performance at the Dr K. Singh shooting range in Delhi as they totalled 188 points, just three clays adrift of Canada and England. Farrugia recorded scores of 23, 23, 24 and 25 for an overall tally of 95 from 100 points.

Vella shot well in the first three rounds to chalk up three successive 24s but he could only hit 21 in the final round to finish with 93. Cyprus duo Georgios Achilleos and Andreas Chasikos defended the gold medal they won in Melbourne four years ago with a winning total of 194.

Canada’s Jason Hughes Caswell and Richard McBride claimed silver on countback with English pair Richard Blickell and Clive Bramley having to settle for bronze after both teams finished on 191.

India placed fifth on 186 points, two behind Malta.
