Charged with injuring wife and man

A man who was allegedly sent letters and text messages by his estranged wife to get back together was yesterday charged with slightly injuring the woman after seeing her with another man.

The couple, whose names cannot be published in order to protect the identity of their two children, are undergoing mediation proceedings following their separation.

The man, 34, from Tarxien told the court his former wife had sent him reconciliatory letters and text messages.

However, when he went to her home sometime between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. yesterday morning, he found her entering the flat with another man.

He allegedly broke the main door of the block and the door of her flat and punched the man. He also struck the woman, grabbed her, forcing her into his car and drove to his home where the police found them shortly afterwards.

He pleaded not guilty to holding the woman against her will, causing damage to the doors, slightly injuring the man and his former wife and threatening her.

The defendant was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.
