The Għaqda Mużikali San Girgor of Kerċem recently organised the second edition of Festubru, a festival of folk, traditional food and heritage, at Lunzjata valley.

The three-day festival opened with morning guided tours of the valley and its surroundings for schoolchildren, followed by the traditional tverna in the evening – the popular meeting place of locals, with food and wine accompanied by folk music.

Gozitan poets and authors shared their literature and prose experience with visitors.

On the Saturday the valley was lit with hundreds of fjakkli, followed by a re-enactment, including a military parade.

The Centre Stage Academy gave a show of dance and music, followed by folk dance and music by the Astra Folk Group and folk singing.

On the following day, activities opened with the traditional game Il-Brilli, followed by Vers Agħtini, featuring local dialects and music.

Other attractions included an exhibition of farming tools and animals from the past, the production of ġbejniet and wool weaving.
