Garbage argument turns violent

The director of a band club yesterday admitted to punching a man in the face in an argument over a garbage bag.

Nicola Baldacchino became irate and accused a resident of leaving her garbage in front of Siġġiewi’s St Nicholas band club, in San Nikola Square, early yesterday morning.

The woman’s husband, Giuseppe Cassar, got involved and an argument ensued during which Mr Baldacchino hit him in the face and injured him.

The arraignment took place just hours later, with Mr Baldacchino admitting to seriously injuring Mr Cassar, threatening and insulting him and breaching the peace. After taking into consideration Mr Baldacchino’s admission and his clean police record, Magistrate Doreen Clarke conditionally discharged him for three years. She also ordered him not to approach the victim for a year against a guarantee of €2,000.
