Telecoms company Go plc was yesterday ordered to pay over €15,000 to one of its technicians who was injured in an accident at the Sliema Exchange in July 1991.

At the time of the accident the company was known as Maltacom plc. Carmelo Ciantar filed an action for damages in the First Hall of the Civil Court before Mr Justice Philip Sciberras.

He told the court that, in July 1991, he was employed with the company as a technician and had been instructed to assist a number of co-workers to dismantle the trunking system of some air conditioning units installed at the Go exchange in Sliema. Before the works started, the trunking collapsed onto Mr Ciantar and he suffered a permanent disability.

The court said it had no doubt Mr Ciantar was not responsible for the accident or for the injuries sustained because he and his colleagues had not even started working when the trunking collapsed.

The court, therefore, found Go liable for damages and ordered it to pay Mr Ciantar €15,725 in damages.
