PL claims road works discrimination

The Labour Party said today that residents of Ta' Giorni housing estate were discriminiated against in road surfacing decisions taken by the Mayor of St Julians.

Stefan Buontempo, party spokesman on local government, said that decisions on road works under a public-private partnership scheme had been taken by the Mayor on his own.

Despite the evident need for road works at Ta' Giorni estate, none of the streets there were in the list drawn up by the Mayor.

Dr Buontempo noted that the majority of residents at Ta' Giorni were Labour supporters. He called on the Mayor to explain.

Roderick Galdes, party spokesman on social housing, said that the state of the roads at Ta Giorni estate was unacceptable.
