Go plc was today ordered to pay more than €15,000 to one of its technicians, who had been injured in an accident at the Sliema Exchange in July 1991.

At the time of the accident the company was named Telemalta.

Carmelo Ciantar filed his action for damages in the First Hall of the Civil Court before Mr Justice Philip Sciberras.

He told the court that in July 1991 he was employed with the company as a technician and had been instructed to assist a number of his co-workers to dismantle the trunking system of the air conditioning units installed at the Go exchange in Sliema.

Before the works could commence the trunking had collapsed on to Mr Ciantar and he had suffered a permanent disability.

In today’s judgment the court declared that it had no doubt that Mr Ciantar was not responsible for the accident or for the injuries sustained as he and his fellow co-workers had not even started their dismantling works when the trunking collapsed.

The court found Go liable in damages and ordered the company to pay Mr Ciantar €15,725 in damages.
