The euro traded above 1.39 dollars today for the first time in eight months following the release of weaker-than-expected private sector jobs data in the United States.

At about 1535 GMT, the European single currency hit 1.3926 dollars -- the highest level since February 2.

The dollar has faced strong selling pressure ever since the US central bank hinted last month at more stimulus spending if the tepid US economic recovery cools further.
