The World Association of Detectives (WAD) recently celebrated its 85th annual conference at the Corinthia Hotel, St George’s Bay. The five-day conference included industry-related seminars as well as allowed the association members to vote in new officers.
At the end of the conference a number of awards were presented at a formal banquet, including the Investigators of the Year and the Security Professional of the Year awards.
The Hal Lipset Memorial Award, named in honour of the former WAD president, was presented to Kenneth de Martino for his contribution to the industry.
Mr de Martino’s company, Guard and Warden Service House Ltd, was the first to be licensed as a warden agency and today employs over 150 local wardens.
Its services include speed cameras, CCTV monitoring of main roads, towing and clamping and the management of traffic accidents.
The company is also licensed to handle private investigations.
In 2007, Mr de Martino took over the management of the international company G4S in Malta. G4S employ over 400 employees.
He also runs a company licensed to offer training courses for both security guards and local wardens. The modules have been approved by the government and certification is recognised by the authorities as a prerequisite for a licence to be issued.
