Five people were seriously injured this afternoon in a head-on crash in Triq il-Bidnija, Mosta, the police said.

The crash, at around 4 p.m. was between a white Maruti Omni criven by an 18-year-old from St Julian's and a Peugeot's 306, driven by 57-year-old Carmela Fells. The van's driver is critical while Ms Fells suffered grievous injuries.

The van's three passengers - brothers Dean and Sean Agius, 17 and 15, respectively, both from Mosta and a 20-year-old man from Sliema were also seriously injured.

The men had to be taken out of the car by personnel from the Civil Protection Department.

An inquiry is being held.
