Maria Assunta Tabone of Nadur recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Ms Tabone was born in Għajnsielem. She married Salvu in 1938 and went to live in Nadur where they raised a family of 12 children.

Mass was concelebrated at her house and attended by her nine living children.

Some members of the family came over from Australia and the US for the celebration, which was also attended by neighbours and friends as well as Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono and then Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said, who presented her with an icon and a crucifix respectively.

President George Abela sent Ms Tabone a bouquet of flowers, while Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi sent her a silver tray.
