An Egyptian who lives in Hamrun has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to attempted extorion. The case allegedly happened in Gozo in August.

Ashraf Elbakry, 48, was also charged with threatening and holding a person against his will.

He was charged with using violence on the person, being in possession of a knife without the necessary police licence and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

The case continues.
