A driver lost his temper and punched another motorist in the face after they both refused to give way.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning and landed Jesmond Schembri, 38, in court.
Driving in opposite directions, Mr Schembri, of Ħamrun, and Briton John Stuart Barton came face to face along Great Siege Road in Floriana, near the entrance to the Excelsior Hotel.
When neither of them would back down, Mr Schembri got out of his car, walked up to Mr Barton and punched him in the face, the court heard yesterday.
The accused admitted to charges of slightly injuring Mr Barton, breaching the peace and committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term.
Defence lawyer Stephen Tonna Lowell played down the incident and asked Magistrate Antonio Mizzi to take into account the fact that it was only a punch and nothing more serious.
The magistrate quipped that his client should have used his head before his fist.
After taking into consideration the circumstances of the case, Magistrate Mizzi fined Mr Schembri €500 and extended his previous suspended jail term.
Police Inspector Pierre Micallef Grimaud prosecuted.
