Between 2000 and the end of June 2010, a total of 229 women and girls were raped and visited private specialists, Mater Dei Hospital or health centres for treatment.

Answering a question by Labour MP Helena Dalli, Health Minister Joseph Cassar said the number of incidents varied between 10 in 2002 and 31 in 2000. Between 2006 and 2009, the number ranged from 23 to 27 in each full year reported.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici told Labour MP Chris Agius that during the three months of June, July and August this year 52 persons had been caught loitering for prostitution in Ta’ Xbiex, Gżira and Marsa.

The police issued 21,382 summonses for traffic contraventions, of which 20,265 were decriminalised and covered by the issue of traffic offence tickets. Dr Mifsud Bonnici could not say how many summonses had been issued by traffic wardens.
