Bogdanovic suspended for Georgia qualifier, Schembri set for return

Goalkeeper Haber also earns Malta recall

Malta will travel to Georgia on Monday without Daniel Bogdanovic.

The Sheffield United forward must serve a one-match ban after receiving two yellow cards in the opening Euro 2012 Group F qualifiers.

Having been cautioned in the 3-1 defeat to Israel in Tel Aviv, Bogdanovic collected his second booking after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 home defeat to Latvia earlier this month.

On Tuesday, Bogdanovic received a timely boost as he started his first league match for Sheffield United since his close-season switch from Barnsley.

The Malta forward left a very good impression in the 67 minutes he was on the pitch as the Blades claimed a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest. Bogdanovic made way for Ched Evans midway into the second half.

Bogdanovic’s lively performance came only two days after Maltese striker André Schembri stole the limelight with a hat-trick in Ferencvaros’s 3-1 win away to Vasas.

Schembri, who has scored five goals for Fradi in the league this season, is widely expected to keep his place in the team for tomorrow’s home game against MTK Budapest.

The 24-year-old forward and goalkeeper Justin Haber, who is also on the books of Ferencvaros, have earned a recall to the national squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Georgia tomorrow week.

National coach John Buttigieg has yet to name his squad but the Ferencvaros duo have already been informed that they are in his plans for the Georgia trip.

Haber missed the opening qualifiers due to a hand injury while Schembri had not been considered for selection since telling Buttigieg that he was pulling out of Malta’s World Cup qualifier against Portugal in October last year to concentrate on his club career.
