A man who punched another in a road rage incident yesterday was this morning fined €500.

Jesmond Schembri, 38, of Hamrun pleaded guilty to punching Englishman John Stewart Barton in the face yesterday morning at Great Siege Road in Floriana.

Both men were driving on the same road and when they crossed paths, no one wanted to give way.

Mr Schembri also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace and committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended jail term.

Defence lawyer Stephen Tonna Lowell asked magistrate Antonio Mizzi to take into consideration that his client had only punched the man and the injuries the victim sustained were of a slight nature.

The then remarked that the client should next time think before acting.

He fined Mr Schembri €500 and extended his suspended jail term of six months to one year, starting from today.
