I shot scores of spoonbills – but with my camera. I shot these two on my own property which I have developed into a bird-magnet.

Birds shouldn't need and don't need fences to keep them safe. Why, the very saying, free as a bird, says it all. Make Malta safe for birds and they shall come and eventually some will stay and scenes like this involving all manner of birds, which I enjoy each and every single day of my life, shall become normal. Malta can be a huge bird haven; but for that you have to aim your guns only at skeets.

You won't have to feed them or worry about them. Just plant as many of the right trees as possible for shelter, roosting and their “aviation fuel”, (Chinese elms – ulmus chinensis – are ideal; these trees are fast growers and so easy to grow), then, sit back with your camera and binoculars and shoot away.
