Keith Bartolo, Birkirkara St Joseph’s long-distance swimmer, has returned from England following his participation in the 17km Lake Windermere Open Water Swim challenge.

Bartolo qualified for this race after successfully completing the 13-kilometre Torbay swim.

Besides being the longest swim in England, the Lake Windermere is one of the toughest open water events in Europe. Thirty-four swimmers started the race in favourable conditions with the water slightly choppy.

The BSJ swimmer’s pace was consistent from the start, covering the distance in five hours 41 minutes to finish seventh overall.

With a couple of positive results under his belt, Bartolo is planning to enter more races next year.
