The Magro Brothers group have opened a cheese factory in Xewkija, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi on Thursday.

Dr Gonzi said the Magro family had always turned challenges into opportunities in its 94 years in business, and Magro Brothers was a company based on the capabilities of it workers combined with the family’s eye for innovation.

It always made him happy in his capacity as Prime Minister, he said, to hear that local entrepreneurs were doing well in spite of the global economic recession, the repercussions of which were still being felt today.

“This investment is evidence of the importance manufacturing has for the economy and the government believes high value-added manufacturing allows Malta to become a centre of excellence in the field,” Dr Gonzi said.

He added that the opening of the factory marked another link in the chain towards the government realising its eco-Gozo vision. The new factory was opened by the Magro Brothers’ company Farm Fresh Ltd. It will make dairy products such as ricotta and cheeselets.
