A man from Zabbar who allegedly did not want anyone to park in front of his house this morning pleaded not guilty to threatening a disabled person.

Justin Cassar, 22, was also charged with causing voluntary damage to a car belonging to neighbour Lawrence Muscat, breaching the peace and swearing in public.

PS Sonia Parascandolo told the court that from what she could recall, the accused had filed one or two police reports about people parking in front of his home in Triq Sta Maria, Zabbar.

She could remember telling Mr Cassar that as the cars were parked legally, there was nothing she could do about the matter.

Taking the witness stand, alleged victim Mr Muscat, aided by a sign language interpreter, told the court he had had several arguments with the accused, who used to swear at him.

On June 15 last year at around 4.30 p.m., Mr Muscat and his elderly mother decided to go out. His car was parked near in a free parking spot.

Mr Muscat told the court that his mother stopped to talk to an elderly woman so he got into the car, closed the door and waited.

All of a sudden, the aggressor came out of his home and began hitting the car’s bonnet and windscreen, then went to the side of the car and punched the driver’s window in.

Mr Muscat said he got out of the car and asked the aggressor what was going on.

The two men got into a scuffle, during which his mother fainted and fell to the ground.

Mr Muscat said his glasses fell off and the accused bit him in the chest.

At this point, he got out two photographs of his injuries one in each hand, lifted them up from the witness box and showed them to the magistrate and the courtroom.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona asked Mr Muscat to stop the theatrics and Mr Muscat apologised.

The case continues.
