Air Malta’s financial situation has been brought about by wrong decisions taken by people trusted by GonziPN, costing the company millions of euro, according to Labour spokesman Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
She said the airline was the fruit of sacrifices of a Labour government and was set up despite the scepticism of the conservative forces within the Nationalist Party.
Dr Coleiro Preca was reacting to Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi’s comments on the airline company during a political activity last week in which he said Air Malta had to have financial stability.
She said the company was suffering from a lack of leadership and that the government was not giving enough importance to this national asset.
“Air Malta does not even have a full-time chairman at such a delicate period for the company, tourism and the economy.”
Labour believed there was still a future for the national airline and was prepared to give it trust and vision “without any hidden agenda”.
