The Malta Union of Teachers has declared a dispute at the Sacred Heart Junior School and said it was not excluding industrial action to protect teachers' rights in the coming days.
The union said that unilateral decisions were taken by the school's board of governors recently and teachers were embarking on a scholastic year full of uncertainties as a result. These could also have an effect on students.
It condemned those who, it said, were undermining the union's instructions to staff members saying this was unethical and went against the accepted principles of good behaviour.
