Valletta-based Mediterranean Bank has joined Heritage Malta’s Corporate Patronage Programme.
By becoming a HM patron the bank committed itself to support the extension of the National Museum of Archaeology in the capital as well as the setting up of a children’s area in the museum.
Bank chief executive officer Mark Watson said the spon-sorship will part finance the renovation of the museum’s first floor which is currently closed to the public.
HM is currently carrying out a project at the museum that will extend the national permanent exhibition.
This display, which will be exhibited on the upper floor, will provide the public with an in-depth view of Malta during the Bronze Age, Phoenician, Punic, Roman and Byzantine periods; 2,000 artefacts that will form part of this permanent exhibition have already been sourced, digitised, documented, and subsequently conserved.
Frank Mifsud, Heritage Malta’s acting chief executive, explained the display will be dynamic and will include not only the finds and information panels relating to the periods but also other media that appeal to the senses, allowing visitors to interact more with the artefacts and each era.
As HM corporate patrons, the bank’s staff and selected client will also have privileged access to Heritage Malta sites and museums.
