Authorities surrounding a Bank of America in Coral Gables, Florida, after a bank clerk was kidnapped from his home by robbers who strapped a suspected bomb to his chest and forced him to help them steal money from the bank.

A major south Florida thoroughfare, US 1, was closed for hours at the height of rush hour and three local schools were on lockdown. Administrators reported the incident as a hostage situation.

The suspected explosive device was safely removed and the clerk was brought out.
