Malta’s emphatic 20-5 victory over home team Cyprus in the U-19 Comen Cup on Thursday was followed up yesterday by a defeat at the hands of the strong Greeks who won 20-6 (7-0, 5-0, 4-4, 4-2).
As the session scores indicate, the Maltese were overwhelmed in the first two sessions but managed to halt the slide in the subsequent ones, sharing eight goals in the third quarter and limiting the adverse readings in the last to 4-2.
Jordan Camilleri followed up his six goals on the first day with another four yesterday, with Christian Cluett and Kai Dowling scoring one each.
Cluett, Michael Spiteri Staines and Dino Zammit each scored a hat-trick against Cyprus with the other goals coming from Zach Mizzi (2) and one each from Seb Cini, Michael Cordina and Jean Claude Cutajar.
In today’s matches, Malta are due to meet Egypt and Italy.
