Lufthansa Technik’s facilities in Malta have embarked on a four-year contract with the mother company of their group to maintain and modify its Boeing B737s.
The German legacy carrier, Lufthansa, owns 60 B737s which are quickly approaching their flight cycle limit, a deadline that calls for extensive maintenance and modification works which will now be carried out here.
Every aircraft needs more than 10,000 hours or 30 days of work. In fact, the servicing facility is looking to employ a further 60 people, bringing its total workforce to more than 800.
Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, who visited the hangar yesterday, pointed out that this showed Maltese workers were not only good in aircraft maintenance but also their modification.
“The fact that Lufthansa chose our country to carry out these works is a sign of trust in the quality of the workers and confirms the country’s competitiveness. This because Lufthansa considered other alternatives around the world before choosing our country, among them China,” he said.
