Palermo beat Juventus 3-1

Juventus continued to blow hot and cold, going down 3-1 to Palermo in a league match at home last night and falling six points off the pace with leaders Inter so early in the season.

Juve, coming from a comfortable 4-0 at Udinese in the previous match, fell behind to an early Javier Pastore goal and they never recovered from that shock.

Despite dominating possession, the hosts were unable to find a way through as Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu kept the Sicilians in the match with a series of fine saves.

On one occasion, Alessandro del Piero was denied by the woodwork following a rasping shot from 25 metres out.

From a quick counter-break, Josip Ilicic volleyed home on 62 minutes to make it 2-0 to pave the way for Palermo’s first win of the season.

Cesare Bovo scored again for the visitors from a free-kick before Vincenzo Iaquinta pulled one back for Juve three minutes from time.
