Elton John is honouring his promise to visit Malta again, returning for a concert on Sunday.

Organised by NNG Promotions, the concert will see the return of one of the music icons of the last 40 years. The British singer has sold more than 250 million albums and produced classic songs like Daniel, Your Song and Candle in the Wind.

Knighted in 1998, Sir Elton has been heavily involved in the fight against AIDS since the late 1980s. He has won five Grammy awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award.

He played a memorable solo concert at the Granaries in Floriana in 2003, during which he had promised to return in future. For the Malta concert he will be accompanied by Ray Cooper, who has performed with some of the world’s finest artistes.

Ray Cooper is an English musician. He is a session and road-tour percussionist, and occasional actor, who worked with Pink Floyd, Sting, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Elton John. His recording career started in the 1960s, recording with The Who, among others, and is still going strong. Among his early jobs were America, Carly Simon, David Essex and Blue Mink. Most notable was his work with Elton John, for whom he played on most of his 1970s albums. He had also played on Nicky Hopkins’ 1973 solo album.

Mr Cooper is also serving as Elton John’s percussionist for a small exclusive series of shows, one of which is at the Royal Albert Hall. The proceeds received from the show will help fund a new organ in the main concert hall at the Royal Academy of Music, which Elton John once attended. It will be a solo show but with Ray Cooper on percussion, this will be the first time since 1995 that they have played together.

This is a repeat of the show in the late 1970s that toured extensively across Europe and most notably in Russia. In the 1995 tour the two artistes performed in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and Costa Rica.
