The Malta Council for Science and Technology is inviting science and technology researchers to participate in a public discussion entitled “Science, Research, Innovation and Creativity: How can they enhance Malta’s economy?” tomorrow.

The event at Kalkara’s Villa Bighi at 5.30 p.m. will be followed by a reception for the researchers as part of the activities organised for Researchers’ Night, a Europe-wide initiative involving a range of research and scientific organisations.

The main aim behind Researchers’ Night is to give the public the opportunity to meet researchers and scientists within an informal context, as well as highlighting the appeal of pursuing a scientific career. MCST chairman Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando will be chairing the discussion which will be instrumental for the follow-up of Malta’s National Research and Innovation Strategy.

Knowledge-intensive economic growth presents a major challenge for small countries with limited resources, a lack of critical mass and a poor culture for research and innovation. Support for new entrants is critical in the knowledge economy since these innovative start-ups and spin-offs are created in response to emerging new technology niches and commercialisation opportunities.

Registration is free of charge.
