2) I've expressed my feelings about fireworks before and I will again. We must try and find out the reasons for the recent tragedies. Firework displays are for all occasions and not only for festas. Which in my case are a distant memory too. As are soft and hard nougats, eating them till they came out of my ears when I was a kid. But I am now paying the price. I presume they are still sold at festas. What is a festa without qubbajt? And trikki-trakki?
PS I also liked the pencil-like white lights going up at an angle. Never saw that before. Thank you!

1) First of all, let me make it clear I am not the Joe Xuereb of Ta' Xbiex. I am the London UK one.
I have seen kaxxi nfernali - protracted displays that bring the festivities to a close (for cultural purposes, loosely translated as 'inferna boxes' in the nicest possible way) in my time, but this one competing in Bilbao takes the biscuit. It is a display and a half. Prosit!
Difficult to say if I've seen better or worse - having been exposed to fireworks since childhood, and enjoying them immensely in Hamrun and St. Vennera and elsewhere (eg the special treat of seeing firewords of San Bert in Gharghur on the far horizon from our roof in Hamrun - all wonderful childhood memories). I've seen fireworks here in UK over the decades but the feeling I have never recaptured. Certainly displays here don't seem better than anything I remember from my young Malta days. With this display - thanks to C. Busuttil - I like it all but especially the little round balls effect rising from the ground, not to any great height, like a beautiful bunch of rose-buds. I liked that.

We win the world cup of fireworks and we are recognised the best in the world for fireworks manufacturing and you want to import it? that is absurd. why not look into why these accidents are happening? it is a high probability that the imported chemicals are defective and the poor fireworks manufacturers are supplied with inferior products!! One has to look beyond the tip of his nose Joe Xuereb.

What world cup of fireworks? Just because a minor contest allows foreign participation does not make it the ultimate competition in the world.

You're right Casha ,because some people on this island think that the whole world will become useless without us the Maltese people.

We Maltese are to Fireworks what Brazil are to Football. We might not necessarily be the world champions (although wherever Maltese where given a chance they came out with flying colours)but still are the ones who put most fantasy and dedication to it. I definitely think that the recent spate of accidents is something which needs dealing with SERIOUSLY however I do not think that importing petty fireworks from china is in any way comparable to the product which the Maltese despite the very limited resources and inexistent assitance from the authorities are capable of producing. What we need is a SERIOUS Board which regulates the manufacture, transport and setup of fireworks made of competent individuals with both technical and practical knowledge.
Our Fireworks are part of our Identity and an integral part of our celebrations it would be a pity to loose them to commercial mainstream fireworks just beacuse no one is willing to put in a serious commitment of resources.

It is not one competition that the Maltese HAVE WON but various. The "dilletanti" have beaten the World famous Australians the ones that hold every New Year's Eve fireworks displays in Sydney. The "dilletanti" have managed to beat foreigners something in which no field the Maltese manage to do. The fact that the Maltese fireworks factories don't take part in other competitions is due that they have limited finances since they are Non profit and taking part in such competitions would be a burden, otherwise the Maltese would carry every competition held. Maltese fireworks is the labour of dedication and passion which no commercial factory can ever dream to emulate.
The multibreak fireworks are unique to Malta only, NOT even the Chinese can do them!!!!!!
Just see yourself what foreigners think about the Maltese fireworks

Nobody considers Malta as the centre of the universe but through fireworks at least it has a place on the Map

Import fireworks? Have you ever happened to watch the Italian news before festivities, when police do round ups for foreign imports, to minimise on the many accidents these fireworks cause in the wrong hands?
