A 22-year-old waterpolo player was this morning conditionally discharged for three years and fined €700 after he pleaded guilty to his involvement in a fight during a game between Neptunes and St Julian’s on August 28.

Ranier Scerri, who had originally pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to seriously injure Stefano Camilleri, the Neptunes team doctor, when he threw a flying kick aimed at his ribs, this morning admitted to the charges.

He had also pleaded not guilty to throwing water bottles in the scuffle, which broke out at the National Pool in Tal-Qroqq, Msida, at about 7.15 p.m. and to using vulgar language in public, breaching the peace and disobeying police orders.

The court ordered Mr Scerri not to bother Dr Camilleri against a guarantee of €1,000 and prohibited him from approaching any sports facility for the next five months.
