Sound Of Music star’s brief encounter led to wedding

Sound Of Music star Connie Fisher – who found fame on a BBC1 talent hunt – has married a man she met on a railway platform.

The 27-year-old singer proved it was far from a brief encounter by tying the knot with international banker Jeremy Reed.

Posing for pictures for Hello!, Ms Fisher told the magazine: “Before Jeremy proposed, I didn’t think that getting married was that important to me.

“But to make that public declaration of our love in front of our families and friends, and to feel their love and support for us, was so special and so personal.”

The pair married at St Donat’s Church, near their home in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.

In a break from tradition, Connie’s mum, Jan, gave her daughter away, while the singer’s father Michael, who is divorced from her mother, read a poem from A.A. Milne’s Winnie The Pooh.

Fisher – who found fame on How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? with Andrew Lloyd Webber – said: “Winnie the Pooh was my favourite childhood character and Dad would read stories to me every night. So it meant a lot to me to have him read that poem at my wedding.”

Losing two stones in the run-up to her big day – through running and healthy eating – meant she even had to have her engagement ring resized.

“With the running, I was like Forrest Gump – once I started, I didn’t want to stop. But then it got to a point with the dress fittings where I was told, ‘You mustn’t lose any more’.”

She met divorcee Mr Reed two years ago on Platform 1 of Cardiff station, when they were both travelling to London for work. They began talking, but were unable to catch the same train and parted without swapping numbers.

Although he had not twigged who she was at the time, he traced her through a mutual friend.

“It was the most amazing day and we will treasure it for the rest of our lives,” she said of the wedding.
