For the past 10 years I have been summoned as a witness in a case involving a hit-and-run incident during which I gave first aid to the victim.

The police have rightly been trying to seek justice but this has ended in a great injustice towards me, the citizen who tried to do his duty by helping the victim. In all this time I have only seen the alleged offender once and all the other times I have been called in just to waste my time and without the accused appearing in court. To add insult to injury, a witness is not allowed to testify and be done with it, even though the accused does not respect the law by repeatedly not turning up for hearings.

May I suggest that if justice aims at obtaining respect, compliance and support from the citizens, it has to reduce the hardship of those trying to participate actively and respectfully.

It is difficult wasting time waiting for someone to turn up for a hearing, or for the system to listen to what I have to say.
