Newborn dolphins in captivity

Although births are very often received with joy, Moviment Graffitti is very concerned about the newborn dolphins at the Mediterraneo Marine Park.

Graffitti believes animals shouldn’t be kept in captivity for the sake of entertainment and profit. Because of the greed of some, these newborn dolphins will never get to experience the ocean where they were designed to live, but will have to live a life confined to a small water tank.

Apart from living in restricted areas, dolphins in captivity are continually being taught tricks to amuse spectators. According to animal rights associations, dolphins are often kept hungry so as to be given rewards after achieving the goals set by their trainers. Apart from that, animal rights activists are preoccupied by the fact that most dolphins in captivity live shorter lives compared with the average of 45 years in the open seas.

Despite claims by dolphinarium operators that the dolphins are monitored and well cared for, and although dolphins may seem happy to perform and play with the children, they are only truly happy when they are living in their natural habitat: in the open sea.

Graffitti urges all those who hold animal rights at heart to avoid all forms of animal entertainment so as not to contribute to the suffering of animals in captivity.

One should keep in mind that the Mediterraneo Marine Park is listed as the seventh cruellest destination in Europe by the American animal rights organisation PETA.
