How’s that for food hygiene?

My husband and I stopped at a food outlet in Ħamrun on September 3 around 6 p.m. We parked right by the side door. We were the only ones there at the time.
I watched a young girl from the back preparing our wraps. She wore no gloves but I was hoping she had washed her hands as she cut and handled the chicken with her bare hands.
With two slices of cheese in her hand, she opened the plastic and the cheese fell on the floor. She immediately bent over and picked it off the floor and put it on our sandwich! I was aghast. As she went to open the other piece of cheese I screamed: “Hey, you dropped that cheese on the floor and put it on our sandwich”.
She was stunned when she heard me scream, because she had no idea someone was by the door and did not think anyone saw her pick up the cheese off the floor. She just turned and looked at me and looked surprised and guilty with her mouth hanging open, speechless.
Just then, a fellow employee came to the side door and I again told him what she did. Still holding the other piece of cheese, she told him: “No, it was this one”.
Just the thought of what might have been on that floor makes me ill.
I told them I was going to write to the newspaper and the young man just slammed the side door. I agree, they should keep the side door shut so people cannot see what goes on.
If I were the manager I would have fired that girl on the spot.
