Champions Birkirkara crashed to their first defeat in the 2010-11 Premier League campaign after they lost to Floriana 2-0 at the National Stadium yesterday.

Michael Mercerod put Floriana ahead on the stroke of half-time when he received a good ball from the impressive Ivan Woods and unleashed a powerful drive that gave no chance to Birkirkara goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.

Birkirkara tried hard to get back into the match after the break but in time added on Kiril Dzhorov killed off any hopes for the champions when he beat Bartolo with a rising shot.

Ivan Woods was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
