I refer to the news item of September 11 particularly “this is a third party liability policy… to cover the period when fireworks are being let off and… are transported from the factory to the site”.
Does this mean that the house owners who suffered damage because of an incident cannot be compensated because the fireworks blew up on site?! Are we to understand that the poor family who lost their house and wife and mother in Naxxar a few years back cannot claim any compensation?
Isn’t it about time that the government, the Interior Minister and the Police Commissioner wake up and introduce a serious law whereby innocent citizens who suffer bodily injury/death and/or property damage are adequately compensated?
The government should stop pussyfooting about and get tough with these dilettanti and so-called “experts” who keep on endangering innocent people. More stringent laws and restrictions together with tougher penalties should be introduced.
It is a joke that every time a fireworks disaster occurs, an inquiry is held but no preventive action or strict supervision and control is introduced and enforced. The minister responsible should ensure that a law is promulgated in order to protect the health, safety and property of innocent citizens who through no fault of their own suffer injury, death and damages.
The noise pollution caused by the murtali should also be measured and monitored as it seems that the strength and noise factor of the 8 a.m. bangers gets louder and louder every year.
The government has to realise that non-dilettanti also vote!
