The local franchise of Italian bag and leather specialty store Carpisa is to invest €3 million in a new outlet in Sliema over the coming months.
The plans were announced by Tony Magri, managing director, as he received an award presented to Carpisa Malta after its current store in Birkirkara was found to be the best among some 500 Carpisa stores in Italy and abroad.
He said the Carpisa would develop a five-storey property in Sliema into a two-storey outlet, stores and offices, making it the biggest and most modern Carpisa shop in Europe.
The award was presented by Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, who praised the company for its performance and its plans.
Dr Azzopardi said that Maltese entrepreneurs were constantly showing that they could compete with the best abroad.
He pointed out that the government was creating the best possible environment for business to grow including Microinvest, the tax credit scheme.
