Carpisa to invest €3m in new Sliema store
The local franchise of Italian bag and leather specialty store Carpisa is to invest €3 million in a new outlet in Sliema over the coming months.
The plans were announced by Tony Magri, managing director, as he received an award presented to Carpisa Malta after its current store in Birkirkara was found to be the best among some 500 Carpisa stores in Italy and abroad.
He said the Carpisa would develop a five-storey property in Sliema into a two-storey outlet, stores and offices, making it the biggest and most modern Carpisa shop in Europe.
The award was presented by Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, who praised the company for its performance and its plans.
Dr Azzopardi said that Maltese entrepreneurs were constantly showing that they could compete with the best abroad.
He pointed out that the government was creating the best possible environment for business to grow including Microinvest, the tax credit scheme.

microinvest & tax credit???
A retailer selling imported items is surely not comparable to an investor who is manufacturing the items locally....
We should be looking and effectively assisting value creation and value added services - not simply retailing!

Entrepreneur is certainly an appropriate description for the brilliant management team. Contract out two thirds of the building to pay for interest and fixed costs, and you achieve a near zero overhead business. Congratulations to Carpisa on a brilliant strategy, one I applied over a decade ago but still as valid as ever.

Eur 3 million in a shop selling shoes and bags !! That's a very big investment for a retail outlet in Malta - maybe we are now believing to be on some Corso in Milan or Rome or a High Street in London !!! .
