Ryanair announces new service to Birmingham
Ryanair said today it will operate a flight between Malta and Birmingham twice a week, from December 15.
The fares will start from £26.99 one way inclusive of taxes.
The low-cost airline also said it had released a million £5 seats for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in October. These low fares, including taxes will be available on over 500 of Ryanair’s European routes but must be booked on www.ryanair.com before midnight tonight.
The Irish airline now has 44 bases and 1100 low fare routes across 27 countries, connecting 160 destinations. It operates a fleet of 250 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft with firm orders for a further 64 new aircraft (before taking account of planned disposals), which will be delivered over the next 2 years. Ryanair currently has a team of more than 8,000 people and expects to carry approximately 73.5 million passengers in the current fiscal year.

Air Malta have had a monopoly on this route for too long and the competition is welcome, during the summer return fares from BHX to MLA with Air Malta are very high as it is a charter flight and not scheduled.

Thank you Air Malta for having supported the tourism industry since birth also serving as a social company to many families in need of health support..... and they were many. Besides KM never ever was subsidised as th lc are being given a fun run. I ask the present govt to give KM the opportunity the same lc are benefiting from. Give KM the same playing level field. Why so much hate against our national airline, after all.

Let AirMalta keep paying it's staff like ruddy kings and queens, giveing them and thier families free flights, giving extra weight allowance galore, (with this I do not mean the 20 Kg you and I are allowed to carry but some people get much more then the 20 Kg one behalf of organisations, and we pay the astronomical fares, so I say Air Malta go to the banks if you want money I will give mine to Ryan Air, with whom I would be hopefully flying next week to take my daughter to UK as a present for just under 200 euros including yes for 25 Kg each(10 Kg hand lugguage and 15 Kg checked in baggage) so fly away AirMalta and let Ryan air show you the way.

Great news this is, nothing wrong at all in having another service from Ryanair. It is true that one will get a better service from Airmalta, but it is well paid for it anyway! Hope that the bookings for Birmingham will be avialble soon, I've just tried to book a flight to B'Gham in March '11 on Ryanair's website but they're not yet available.

I 've got to hand it to this Irish Guy, he aim to ruin Airmalta's credibility as our national airline and one of the dearest airlines in europe, but still reliable at a price not many can affored.m so if you can't beat them join them. I say RA please include us in your list.

Ahh, well done Ryan Air. Just booked a Christmas flight - Air Malta were actually cheaper after all the RyanAir added charges. And this from Heathrow, 20kg of luggage, a proper airport, etc etc.. Ryan Air's cheap fares ain't cheap any more - the service is though.

Give us the price details please. We have booked an Xmas flight to the UK, but as AirMalta was 105 euros more expensive, we are flying with one of the low cost airlines.

Please allow me to thank Ryanair for the good service and good offers its giving to the Maltese and other European civilians. I ve just had a brilliant week in Valencia for a very good price of euro 217 which included a return ticket with Ryanair, a villa with pool and a car all bought from the Ryanair web site. Thanks Ryanair , Keep it up. ( Please note that this was my sixth holiday with Ryanair during the last two years and i've never spend more than 250 euro for a weeks holiday per person)

and now, the negative comments about airmalta's death will start. (these being, most probably, from people who never used airmalta anyway)

@ Ms Ghoare Yes, please dream on. That's what us Maltese used to do up till some years ago....dream about cheap flights. Now thanks to Ryanair we can enjoy two or three holidays per year, or a quick weekend break somewhere in Europe, not necessarily in Gozo (sometimes it even works cheaper, did you know that ?) Where else could you get 100 euros for THREE people to Legoland ? or Bari ? or Venice ? People can complain about prices starting from...., baggage restrictions etc, however fact is, people continue to use them more and more and more ... If it were not so, Ryanair would pull the plug immediately. I don't think the number of tourisits increasing is a coincidence, and I'm also sure it's not thanks to Airmalta or alitalia, or British airways, which left the island, so please, Michael O' Leary, as I'm sure you'll be reading this, keep 'em coming !!!! I for one have used Ryanair at least 15 times, and can't be happier !!

I do not want to sound patriotic. I believe in market competition , however I do not know why you are "supporting" ryanair. Air Malta does not have the economies of scale of ryanair and thus one cannot expect such prices from Air Malta. Mind you I wanted to go to London, and yes more than once Air Malta's flight to Heathrow INCLUDING TAXES AND ALL CHARGES ( no credit card fees, meal included , 20kg luggage) was way cheaper than ryanair ( Fare + luggage charge+credit card charge+ well they invent charges on a regular basis)

We have booked flights to come out to Malta on 28/12/10 and return on 4//1/2011 with Air Malta, two adults and one child at £490 in total , the same dates on Ryanair cost £848 ........perhaps you nailing Air Malta's coffin down is a little premature?

i dont understand why Ryan-air is setting up routes that Air Malta has operated for years, why doesn't Ryan-air set up new routes to unserved destinations, the answer is Ryan-air use's established routes by other airlines at lower prices as they know the demand is there to purchase seat. pure bully tactics.

it definately will cost no more than the €200 i paid to fly to birmingham towards the end of December with Air Malta..If only they announced this news earlier, what a waste of money with Air Malta..

Sep 16th 2010, 16:41
Ms. Ghoare, you should check how much it costs to travel to Birmingham with Airmalta, believe me with all the extra charges and luggages u pay for at Ryan Air it's still cheaper !
What I was going to pay for ONE person Airmalta ticket , I could buy 2 tickets from Ryan Air

@ ms ghoare Moaning is a must for some - Ryanair has prices of Eur 32.20 ( £ 26.99 ) + Eur 10.00 admin fee + Eur 30 luggage = Eur 72.20 one way therefore Eur 144.40 RETURN. Air Malta offers a Eur 263.52 ticket fare for the same dates RETURN. Difference of Eur 119.12 PER PERSON... make that for a family of 3 persons and you'll have a price difference of Eur 357.36...... As for the ticket to be bought by midnight - these are the GBP 5.00 tickets and not the ones of Birmigham. What amazes me here is that moaners find every single possible black dot to point it out. Just enjoy the fact that there is competition around and maybe this will be a wake up call for Air Malta and their sky-high prices....

well, i'm going to eindhoven in late november and all the flight is costing (after credit card cost, after all the extra costs) is 60 euros.. same dates with airmalta = 325 euros. i don't know what airmalta offer more than ryanair to warrant the extra 250+ euro it would cost you to go with them.. free meal (haha)? a metre more legspace? please, explain.
