Sliema Wanderers’ winger John Mintoff and Carlos Emanuel Campagnoli, of Vittoriosa Stars, were given a one-match ban yesterday after both were sent off in their teams’ opening Premier League matches.

Brazilian midfielder Campagnoli became the first player to be shown a red card in the 2010/11 Premier League campaign in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Valletta.

Campagnoli was dismissed early in the second half for two yellow cards.

Mintoff was given his marching orders in the final stages of Sliema’s 4-1 upset to champions Birkirkara on Monday following a reckless challenge on Andrew Decesare.

The one-match ban rules Mintoff and Campagnoli out of their teams’ games against Marsaxlokk and Qormi, respectively.
