The Malta Information Technology Agency recently revised its senior management to sustain the changes and diversity in its operational portfolio.

The company said the appointment of four chief officers will provide a central cohesive drive for the implementation of the agency’s strategic priorities.

Godwin Caruana has been appointed to chief technology officer, Peter Xuereb chief officer for human capital, Juan Borg Manduca chief officer for information systems and transformation and JeanPierre Scerri chief officer for legal, risk and compliance.

“I welcome Godwin, Peter, Juan and Jean Pierre in their new role as chief officers. Their combined skills-set and vast experience will indubitably be vital for the implementation of the agency’s strategy” said MITA’s CEO, Matthew Gatt.

Mr Borg Manduca has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and has a strong business background and extensive working experience in all areas of ICT. He set up and managed one of Malta’s first computer training centres, was general manager of one of Malta’s leading computer hardware organisations and was director and general manager of one of the first ISPs in Malta. For nine years, Mr Borg Manduca was a director at MCAST and was instrumental in the creation of the Institute of ICT.

Mr Caruana has almost 20 years experience in ICT and a Masters in Information Technology from the University of Liverpool, Mr. Caruana has garnered vast knowledge in IT research, adoption, implementation and governance areas. Mr Caruana is currently reading for a PhD in electronic and computer engineering at the University of Brunel.

Dr Scerri is a lawyer and obtained a Magister Juris in European Comparative Law focusing on competition law and was subsequently awarded an LL.M. in computer and communications Law at Queen Mary College, University of London. For the past 13 years, Dr. Scerri worked in telecoms and IT with major companies. His latest post was that of head of regulatory affairs for Southern Europe, Africa and Ireland at Cable and Wireless plc in UK.

Dr Xuereb is a graduate in computer science from Imperial College and began his career at the United Nations International Computer Centre in Geneva. He also read for a Masters degree in management and subsequently for a PhD in information systems management, both at the University of Cambridge in UK. Prior to joining MITA, Dr Xuereb worked with HP in Stuttgart, the Management Systems Unit in Malta and with the Spatial Corp. (owned by Dassault Systèmes) in Germany.

MITA is the government agency with a mandate spanning from ICT policy to programmes and initiatives in Malta. MITA manages full implementation of IT programmes in government focusing on enhancing public service delivery and provides the infrastructure needed for the provision of ICT services to the government. MITA is also responsible for the propagation of ICT within society and the economy and to promote and deliver programmes with the intention of enhancing ICT education and the use of ICT as a learning tool.
