Maltese input in London Beatles tribute concert
Maltese producers and musicians will hit the big stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London with a tribute concert marking the Beatles’ 50 years of music.
Organised by Sim Malta and Buonvino, the concert, on October 28, will feature the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Alan Chircop while composer Wayne Grima will be overseeing the repertoire.
Together with a 100-strong Maltese choir, guest performer will include Dame Shirley Bassey, Tony Christie, Darius Campbell and Beverley Knight.
“The Beatles Philharmonic Tribute is a musical spectacular of inspired classical interpretations from the Beatles’ songbook,” Mr Grima said. “This production has got something for everyone, a musical marriage that embodies dramatic orchestral arrangements imaginatively fused together with rock and pop elements but in keeping with the true spirit and style of the Beatles,” he said.
The tribute will be held under the patronage of President George Abela, whose visit will coincide with his annual trip to Maltese patients undergoing treatment in London.
