The Lands Department is to take legal action against Kalkara fireworks enthusiasts after material related to fireworks was found in part of the former Bighi Hospital that was being illegally occupied, informed sources said this afternoon.

The police and army explosives experts were called to the site this afternoon by the Lands Department. They confirmed that there were no fireworks in the building, but they found wooden frames used in ground fireworks and some 2000 pipes used for the letting off of fireworks.

The enthusiasts were ordered to evict the building within a week.
