Five German divers were rescued by an Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat this morning after finding themselves in difficulty while swimming in rough seas off Dwejra in Gozo.

Police Headquarters alerted the AFM's Operations' centre just after 11 a.m., requesting assistance in the recovery of the five divers who could not make it to shore safely.

The AFM scrambled an Alouette rescue helicopter while patrol boat P-22 proceeded at speed to the area.

The patrol board took the divers on board and landed them at Mgarr.

Life Guards of the Red Cross (Gozo) rescued three swimmers who were in difficulty off Ramla Bay yesterday while an AFM helicopter airlifted an Irish tourist to safety off Gnejna on Friday.
