Somalis flee their country in greater numbers
As the fighting continues in Somalia, thousands of Somalis are fleeing their country, joining the hundreds of thousands who have already left.
At the world's biggest refugee camp in Eastern Kenya, over 5,000 arrive a month, meaning the camp is currently at three times its capacity.
The head of the UN's refugee agency says the International community must do all it can to establish peace in the war torn country.
Somalis constitute the biggest community of migrants in Malta.

The reality is that Africans are slowly being torn apart and destroyed through these endless brutish wars by the western rich countries. African leaders are rotten and corrupt and have no idea how to run a country because they are merely puppets of western masters. They only believe in greed, corruption and plundering the civil population in wars for the western masters’ gain of course.
Its all blood money, blood diamonds and the richness of Mother Earth. We were colonized too and we are not in that state because MALTA DOES NOT HAVE RICH NATURAL RESOURCES.

It's true that colonialism has played a part in this issue, but for goodness sake, why have most of the countries after colonialism become corrupt? Exploitation is partly true, but don't forget we were colonialised too & we did not finish like these countries. Im not a racist person, far from it, but I am also aware of the hardships that these people are encountering during their voyage in the Sahara Desert at the hand of human traffickers and fellow criminals, who exploit mostly women and children thru' gang rapes or worse-not to mention the perilous voyage in the Mediterranean sea or in the gulf of Yemen. So why doesn't the international community start addressing the problems in the country of origin, thus stopping the brain drain, giving these people the possibility to rebuild their countries, stop this unjust migration because at the end of the day they leave everyone and everything behind, and most important make a stop to human trafficking. Human traffickers are gaining most from this migration!!!

The solution is simple. The US and Europe along with other civilized countries should force a solution to topple the dictators in Somalia so that Somalies can run their own country peaceully. The solution is not to take every Somali that is educated into the US or Europe as is happening. THe solution is not saying that these people are refugees and snatch them to have them work for low pay in Europe and America. The solution is to help these people to run their country efficienty. It's not easy, but with will and European and US military help these people may be able to run their own affairs and people don't have to suffer so much. What we are seeing is a whole country of Somalis being dispersed in different countries for the sake of cheap labor. Every one should be ashamed for encouring this situation. And you know who suffers most. It's the women and children who are bearing the brunt of this suffering. And that is where the help should go as well. Somalis will do do well to fight so that they may be able to live in their country and not refugees.

Ridiculous statements.... Africa is in the state it's in because the West (we) have been taking their natural resources for years with no social responsibility. Also the majority of ex-colonised countries move swiftly to civil war. We are to blame. Therefore WE must help to alleviate the suffering......

Mr Abela Malta has NO political obligation whatsoever towards Africa. Moreover, this continent gobbles a whopping Euro 29 billion in aid yearly and has yet to extricate itself from the abyss it has got itself into through tribal conflicts and corrupt governments. Surely after 50 years or so of self rule and countless billions of Euros in aid the West is no longer responsible for Africa's predicament. It is pretty obvious that these people cannot manage their own countries, themselves rich in minerals and commodities, let alone western democracies.

Oh stop talking crap, about the Europeans taking their natural resources.
Oil was only discovered in Libya,Nigeria and Angola after they got their independence.
While Ian Smith ruled and the white farmers cultivated the land, Zimbabwe had the best standard of living in Africa. Look at it now after 40 years of Mugabe rule.
The simple fact is that Africans just expect everything to be given to them on a plate, and blame others for their incompetence.

We ? ? ? We ? i ask again....The colonies are all gone , its 2010 , by the way, am i also the one to blame for their Civil War ? The situation is unforutunate, but its not my business .

malta, as part of the world has a moral and political responsibility towards africans.
oil is not the only resource. mugabe is only one exception: various african leaders and countries have done better. seems that koludrovic is another white supremacist: we should appoint white leaders in africa, and problems will vanish! who cares if that means that you deny the majority of the people a say in running their country!!

The situation is most unfortunate. But I hope that nobody will try to draw the conclusion that all those refugees should be settled in Malta or even in Europe.

Very much to the point and agree.
If these refugees really want to flee to 'white Europe' then give them back colonialism. It is a fact that the whole African continent is rotten and corrupt because African leaders have no idea how to run a country. They only believe in greed, corruption and plundering the civil population in wars for the leader's gain of course.

why should they go to the arabian states and not to europe? arabian states may be richer but european standards of respect for human rights are higher.

The EU,the US and other powerful countries should press their corrupted government to find a solution immediately otherwise they'll be brought before justice.
