The Nationalist Party lashed out at Labour leader Joseph Muscat accusing him of, through his silence, defending Attard councillor and labourite John Bonnici, who was convicted for vandalism.
Mr Bonnici was given a five-month jail term suspended for a year for damaging stone balustrades on the Attard church parvis last year, after the mayor refused to remove them.
“Dr Muscat is a politician who occupies himself with sitting on the fence, thinking that politics is a platform for theatrics but, when push comes to shove, he is weak against corruption and those who commit wrongdoings,” it said.
This was in stark contrast with his defending disgraced Sliema mayor Nikki Dimech, who is undergoing criminal action for allegedly taking bribes.
“In an attempt to defend someone who committed a wrongdoing, Dr Muscat has put the interest of residents aside as he did in Sliema when he defended Mr Dimech with great insensitivity towards the residents, ,” the PN said.
