President Abela’s father laid to rest

Hundreds yesterday flocked to St George parish church, Qormi to pay their last respects to President George Abela’s father.

George Abela, 84, passed away on Monday at Mater Dei Hospital.

His widow, Lucarda, led the congregation, which included Dr Abela and his family and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, who buried his own father on Monday.

Also present were Chief Justice Silvio Camilleri, Labour leader Joseph Muscat, MPs and representatives of constituted bodies.

Mr Abela was praised for his religious beliefs, his frequent presence at church and his role as a family man and worker.
