The amount of work carried out by the hospital’s emergency department staff illustrated the high standards of care offered, Health Minister Joe Cassar said yesterday.
He was speaking at a meeting congratulating three members of staff for their success in Poland, where they won best foreign team and fourth overall prize in the First European Emergency Medicine Championship.
Dr Cassar described the team as “people who are very professional and serious in their work”.
He said the people should “put their mind at rest” because the department was equipped with staff such as these.
Jonathan Joslin, Michael Spiteri and Vicky Bugeja Rausi competed against 40 teams from 13 countries in an emergency scenario. The Maltese team was equipped with an ambulance with a Maltese cross, a driver and an emergency kit and had to go on a special site where they were challenged with a simulated emergency scenario.
Dr Cassar praised them for their hard work. He pointed out that the team was always ready to respond to a crisis, even in their free time.
